Sioux Falls grew up around the falls of the Big Sioux River, and Falls Park still anchors downtown. A paved bike trail follows the river most of the way around the city. Downtown has local restaurants, the Washington Pavilion and the outdoor SculptureWalk on Phillips Avenue, and the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center hosts concerts and games on the north side.
Health care and education drive much of the job market. Sanford Health and Avera McKennan run major hospital campuses here, and Augustana University and the University of Sioux Falls sit close to central neighborhoods. I-29 runs along the west side, I-229 loops the south and east, and I-90 crosses the north edge of town.
